Calvin Signs with John A. Logan

Following her amazing six-year basketball career at Ballard Memorial, Mady Calvin signed her letter of intent to continue playing basketball for the John A Logan Lady Vols.  Leaving as Ballard Memorial’s all-time leading scorer of 1961 career points, she looks to help get the Lady Vols back to their winning ways.  Calvin will leave her mark on Ballard Memorial as the school’s all-time leading scorer who also accumulated 916 career rebounds, and the most single game points scored by any Bomber with 56 in a game against Christian Fellowship on February 22nd this year.  Her 22-points in a single quarter is also a school record in their win over Dawson Springs on March 6th.  “I am just really excited I got to sign and have the opportunity to go play,” said Calvin.

She will go to John A Logan, who in 44 years has captured 16 conference titles, 12 regional championships, 10 National Junior College Athletic Association Elite 8 appearances, 4 Final Fours, and a 1988 NJCAA runner up finish.  The Lady Vols look for more of those glory day opportunities and for their first winning season since the 2017-18 campaign when they hit the floor in the Fall 2021 season.  They sit at 3-13 in the current season that continues into April.   Calvin wants to be one of those impact players to help get the Lady Vols back on top.   “I just want to do my part as a player and help them win games,” said Calvin adding, “I just have to work hard and bring my game and make sure I bring my competitiveness.”  Lady Vol fifth year coach Amanda Shelby says of her new signee, “There is no part of her game that is missing.  She is a great leader, scorer, and defender. She plays at 120 percent all the time.”  Coach Shelby expects Calvin to have an immediate impact for the Lady Vols.  “She is going to get in there and score a lot of points for us.  She will be a leader.  All she has to do is show up, player her game, relax, and she will be absolutely fine.”

Ballard Memorial Coach Tim Adams has coached Calvin for five of her six years as a Lady Bomber player and said, “Mady’s best is still ahead of her.  You will see her game flourish in the college level.  The sky is the limit.”   Coach Shelby added, “She can go from inside to outside and she will definitely help us get back to our 20-win seasons.”

Calvin’s family has been supporters of her, and they played a huge impact on her selecting to become a Lady Vol.  Calvin said of John A Logan, “It is close to my home and my family.  You know, they are really a big part of my life, and they will be able to come watch me and that is my main factor.  She added, “They have really good coaches and I think I will really excel at John A Logan.”  If Calvin can continue to improve her game as she has the last couple of years of her high school career, then the Lady Vols will be well on their way back to the top of their conference.
