Estes Named Head Boys Basketball Coach

Kevin Estes has been named the new head boys’ basketball coach at Ballard Memorial High School. The former girls’ coach assumed his new duties on June 3, when he met with players and their parents, and held practice.

“I’ve always wanted to coach boys’ basketball,” he said. “I feel like I can help this team, and bring some stability to our senior players for their final season. I think my experience as a successful girls’ coach can bring the boys’ team their wins, as well.”

Many remember Estes as the BMHS girls’ coach from 2007-2011. In those years, he led the Lady Bombers to two All “A” regional championships, and two Elite 8 tournament appearances (2008 and 2009). His teams also won three consecutive district championships, in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

BMHS Principal Tim Adams said, “Coach Estes is a proven winner that brings a highly competitive spirit to our boys’ basketball program. Our goal was to find someone with the experience to guide our program into the next phase of Bomber Basketball. We are excited for Coach Estes to be the Head Boys Basketball coach at Ballard Memorial High School.”

It will be the first time he’s coached boys since the years his son played travel ball. “I’m excited about the challenge,” Estes added. “I’ve always had a passion for coaching, and am looking forward to getting back on the hardwood. There is a lot of talent here, and high expectations for this year.”

Estes also will remain in his position as chief academic officer for the district. He holds bachelor’s degrees in biology and chemistry from Western Kentucky University, a master’s in school administration from Murray State University, and Rank I from MSU, along with certifications as K-12 principal, instructional supervisor, director of pupil personnel, and superintendent. His career spans nearly 30 years in education and over 20 as a building administrator, including work in Carlisle, Fulton, Hardin, and Hickman counties.

Estes and his wife, Dana, have two adult children, and reside in Paducah.
